Auhorization codes

We want to use Authorization codes to restrict access to International dialing. How do we setup restriction to International dialing from within our PBX using Authorizatoin codes? We are using an Avaya G3si system.

It's COR based, so you can use authorization codes or not. Authorization codes allow you to utilized a COR not assigned to that particular station. Regardless, you will have to set up a COR that accesses international calling and one that doesn't. You can change the FRL in the COR or the route pattern.

If you display your ars routing table (display ars a 011), you'll see the routing plan for international. It either goes to a route pattern or a partition-route-table (which goes to a route pattern). If you note the route pattern number and check it out (display route-pattern #), take note of the FRL (0-7). Now display the COR of the extension you want to restrict access to international (display station #, display cor #). There is an entry for FRL in the COR, it needs to be less than the FRL entry in the route pattern. This will restrict access to the route pattern international dialing uses.

Authorization codes use the same restrictions. The difference is you dial an auth code to basically change the COR. If the COR of the extension is restricted from dialing international, you can dial the auth code first, essentially changing to a COR that can access.

change system-parameters features - page 4, set auth codes = y, set length.
change authorization-code 1234 (if you set length to 4)
enter 1234 under the AC, enter a COR that has unrestricted access to international dialing (COR FRL greater than route pattern FRL). Have fun...

2.5 hrs to 3 day weekend....

Thanks for the clairification on that. It really helped. :) We got slammed for toll fraud charges as someone dialed Internationally on our nickel.

You can also prevent toll fraud by blocking trunk to trunk transfers at the station level - this prevents unwanted manual transfers to any outside line.

We set up a COS to control trunk-to-trunk transfer:

disp cos

............................ 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15
Trk-to-Trk Transfer Override n n n n n n n n n n n n n y y y

Any devices with a COS of 13 or higher can initiate a consultation call (conference), then drop out of the call and leave the other parties connected. Anything with a COS of 12 or below can still conference outside parties, but when that device drops out of the call all parties are disconnected.
