Backup for VAL board

I would like to backup the announcements we have on a VAL board but am unable to get any ethernet connectivity to it. Its a TN2501AP board. We do have 2 of these setup identically and 1 works and one doesnt.
when I to a status link 7 it says that the ethernet port is disconnected, the switch port says up and up though...

Re: Backup for VAL board

Double check the nodename and ip-interface screens to make certain they match and that it is enabled.

Can you ping the VAL?

What speed is the VAL set for?

Re: Backup for VAL board

I can ping one just fine, but not the other. From my workstation and from the pbx itself... I get a fail error code 1007 on the one that fails. Both look identicle in the ip-interface other than their name and port obviously - Vlan is set to N - is their a way to change that? Is their any other way to back these up while I figure out what is wrong? Their is a com port on the back of the card too...I forget where the speed/duplex is set at but I remember checking and I believe its on auto or 100/full (it does match what our switch is on).
Thanks
Ross

Re: Backup for VAL board

Try to use the save anouncement board XXXXX, this, if works, will save the data to the pcmcia card, so change the card to be sure your translations are not touched. I don't know if they are overwritten or you can have both translations and anouncements in the same card, so better change cards :D

If everything is programmed the same in the PBX, I would have a chat with the data guys to make certain the problem is not at the router, hub, switch, whatever they all connect through. The port of the one you cannot communicate with might be in a different network region, for example.

Re: Backup for VAL board

Also - you said do a save announcement board xxxx -Im wondering if this always saves it to the pcmcia slot or how that works? Id like to be able to just ftp to the box and save everything (translations-announcements etcetc) - Is that possible? Im guessing i need to find some .wav files on the box somewhere right?

Re: Backup for VAL board

Are you sure the Cat 5 cable is good. I've seen a false link light when 1 wire is bad that would result in one side saying up and the other side saying down.

Re: Backup for VAL board

Yeah - swapped cables a few times - Is their a way to put the Val board in a VLAN? The option is just N but I cant see where to change it...

Re: Backup for VAL board

I was going to say it depends on your switch and release as to how to change it. But I just looked in the documentation about VLANs and I quote "This field cannot be administered for VAL boards."

I have little experience with CM3 so if it changes for that release (and that is your release), someone else will need to help.

Re: Backup for VAL board

The save announcement command is old, you save the announcements in the pcmcia but you can not access them from outside the pbx (it has a special format), so you won't have wavs but will be able to restor announcements (if the command worked) in case you have any problem. My answer was for your question about other way to backup announcements while you figure the way to fix your lan connection.

If you "frog" the ethernet cables from the two MedPros does the problem follow the cable or stay with the MedPro?

Re: Backup for VAL board

From the "stranger things have happened" category: In the past I have completely removed translations for a problem and added them back in exactly as before and the problem suddenly began working. Don't ask me why as I couldn't tell you, but this process has become a part of my trouble-shooting toolkit ... usually at the end of the trouble-shooting process, but I still employ it and it still works from time-to-time.

Re: Backup for VAL board

Well its not a medpro, its a Val board... so possibly try the save announcements with a new pcmcia card in (what kind of card is this as I need to buy some others) and then I will at least have a backup - then remove everything and try to put them back?
