Remote Cabinet

I have an Avaya Definity G3R, V11 (MultiVantage 1.2 ). I have seven MCC in three locations, six connecting back to the first via multi-mode fiber. All locations are within a 1/2 mile square area (campus).

The problem: I have a 200 pair cable to a residence hall that is going bad fast. I have three options I can think of: repair the splice cases, replace the cable, or add another cabinet (the fiber to this location is fine). I am researching the viability of each solution. I'm posting here to get some feedback on option three.

I am thinking I could install a SCC1 at the residence hall. Minimally, it looks like I'd need expansion interface, a switch node interface in main cabinet, tone clock, tone detector, power supply, analog circuit packs and appropriate cables. Just wondering if someone could tell me if I'm on the right track, orat least point me in the right direction if I'm off-track.

TIA for the assistance.

Re: Remote Cabinet

You also need a TN775 maintenance card in the new cabinet. You don't mention the fiber transceivers, it will depend on the distance whether you need A or B transceivers.

I also assume the fiber to that building is mult-mode and not single-mode, that takes a whole different kind of transceiver.

Putting a cabinet in that building would be the best and most flexible solution.

Re: Remote Cabinet

So, it sounds like I'm on the right track. That's good to hear. Interestingly, one of my Avaya Business Partners seems to be telling me I need to upgrade my switch to new media servers.

The only thing an upgrade would do is give you another choice for the remote cabinet, it could now connect back to the main server by IP. If all you are interested in doing is add a remote SCC, that is a fraction of the cost of an upgrade.

They just want to make some money :)
