medpro ethernet options

Hello.
I need to change the ethernet options of a medpro, but those fields are blocked, I have tried to disable the board, but fields are still blocked.

Could anyone tellme how to change those fields?

Thanks.

Need to know what release your PBX is currently running.

Re: medpro ethernet options

Go in the ip-interface and disable the board, then validate and then you should be able to change you ethernet settings.

Re: medpro ethernet options

This board is too old that's the reason for this board to have those fields blocked (it only works at 10Mb half dpx).
The rest of the boards allow for the fields to be changed.

Thaks all.

Re: medpro ethernet options

What is the vintage and release of the board? Have you updated the firmware?

Also (and this is important) do you have the black adapter on the back of the switch on the MedPro slot, the gray one does not support 100M FD. And is the cabling from the amphenol the adapter plugs into, to the back of the carrier cat5?

You can tell by looking at the six inch long jumpers, if they are all white with a couple of red leads it is cat3. It will not run stable at 100M FD. If it is multicolored (like a 25 pair cable) then it is cat5. Avaya does sell a cable kit to upgrade individual slots to cat5.

Re: medpro ethernet options

you want to be careful as Avaya sold cat 3 wiring harness in both white/red and multi color cat 3. It looks just like the cat 5 option, only with cat 3 cable. The best bet is to look for the "twists" and not the color of the wire.

Re: medpro ethernet options

I had not seen the multi color as cat3 in anything I installed, but then I did not look for it in every carrier I put in. I only checked if the customer wanted an Ethernet device at 100M full duplex. Since that has only been recently asked for probably explains why I never saw it.

If it was sold as cat3 then the only way to verify cat5 is to look for the individually twisted pairs. Cat3 will not be twisted and if the wire is white/red it is always cat3.

Re: medpro ethernet options

The only reason I know, is because I have a MCC with the C carrier all with multi colored cat 3 cable. The D carrier (which is fairly new) has multi colored cat 5. A and B are both red/white.

Re: medpro ethernet options

Very curious, now I am going to have to look for one.

The kit of parts to upgrade individual slots is definitely cat5 though.

Re: medpro ethernet options

The back of the card has an 8 port RJ-45 connector (the colour is grey), the new ones have 2 ports 1-RJ-45 and 1-9pin serial connector (they come in black or grey colour) All the new ones are 100Mb ether grey or black.
The card is a TN799 B vintage 000001, the new ones are TN799 DP HW01 FW012.

The TN799B is a very old card and cannot be upgraded by firmware. Neither it nor the 259A adapter behind it will support 100M. You will need to replace the card and adapter if you want 100M, also beware of the other discussion here about the cat3, cat5 cabling in the cabinet. You must have cat5 to run 100M.

I would be leery of the gray two port adapter, if it came with the card ok. That means Avaya has changed their manufacturing process again. The only time I ever used the gray adapter was with IPSI cards and the two adapters were not interchangeable.

If you get a TN799DP with a firmware of 12, upgrade it before using it. The latest firmware is 16.
