ftp settings on 4620
Does anyone know the setting that's needed on a 4620 ftp setup for the directory path. I just want to make sure that the parameter I put in will work. I have a corp ftp server that I will use for the 4620's.
Do I create a directory on the ftp servers root directory and match the path on the phone? Also, do most people add a seperate user account for all of the phones or do you use anonymous? thanks |

Re: ftp settings on 4620
Avaya 46XX phones use tftp not ftp. Put all the files in the default directory (C:\tftp). When the phone asks for the file server give it the IP address of that server.
When you get the files from Avaya do not forget the 46xxsettings.txt file. You have to ask for that one it is not automatic and it must be in the same directory.

Re: ftp settings on 4620
Thank DHQ, thats what I thought
Marty, the 46XX use both a TFTP for the firmware and a FTP to backup configs. Next time you see a 4620 hit OPtions and hit Backup/Restore. This proceedure is also in the user guide for the phones. Don't confuse TFTP and FTP |

Re: ftp settings on 4620
Ok, you now have my curiosity :)
I have installed quite a lot of 46XX phones and we have never set them up to do their own backup and restore. I don't see the point of doing that. The phone configuration is stored in the PBX, its' own parameters are stored in the eeprom in the phone. If the phone dies, the replacement has to get the files from the tftp server. What does an ftp backup gain you? There is no mention of this in the 3.0. documentation (that I have found yet). Today is going to be a good day because I will learn something. Teach me.

Re: ftp settings on 4620
See the page 66 of the "4620/4620SW/4621SW IP Telephone Release 2.2 User Guide".
The most important thing that gets backed up from the user's perspective is their speed dial numbers and on the 4620s, the call appearance width. |

Re: ftp settings on 4620
If you use the EU24 and custom labels of speed dials. You will lose that information if you don't have an ftpserver to back the information up. The EU will only show the extension numbers not the customer information (i.e employee name). Also if you reset the phone any customer labels will be lost if you don't have an ftp.

Re: ftp settings on 4620
Thanks!! Very useful information in that user guide. I was unaware of this feature. None of the customers I dealt with ever asked about that including some that have had IP phones for a couple of years.
