Can I have 2 phones with same extension#

Hello everyone,

I have 2 users that want to share the same extension but reside in 2 different offices. We have a definity G3 r011i.03.2.536.1.

Is this possible?

Thanks,

Ceez

Need more information:

1) Do they want the SAME extension or want to have each other's extension numbers on their respective phones. If they want the SAME extension number are they also going to shate the same voicemail mailbox?

2) Are the extensions at these two locations on the same PBX ... i.e. is User A at the main location and User B at the remote location on a remote EPN, a SREPN, or a remote media gateway/LSP of the same PBX?

Re: Can I have 2 phones with same extension#

ahays,

thanks for the reply. With my very very little knowledge of phone systems I can tell you the following:

both users are at the same location, they are 1 office wall apart.

we only have 1 pbx system in the office

and if they do not want to share their extension what is another way of having the extension shared? or having extension A ring also on extension B at the same time but if it goes to vmail it goes to extension A, is this possible/

Thanks for the help,

Ceez

Ceez:

Here are some options. Once you have identified the one that most fits your users' expectations I can help you set it up (you do have administrative priveledges in the PBX, don't you?):

1) Both users have their own extension and their own voicemail but want the opportunity and/or ability to "pick up" or answer each the call before if covers to voicemail.

2) Both users have their own extension and their own voicemail but want to have the physical lines of the other user on their phone so that they can answer the call or join in on a call on the other's extension. This option requires a phone with quite a few buttons ... like an 8410, 6416, 2420, 4620, etc.

3) Both users want the exact same extension number, a singe shared voicemail mailbox, and identical buttons on both phones.

Let me know.

Re: Can I have 2 phones with same extension#

I have a similar request, but we have two offices. Office A is running IP406 and B IP Small Office. We have salespeople that will work out of both offices. The installer said they will have to have two extensions - one for each office. Needless to say, it is confusing retrieving voicemail. Would like to have the same extension #'s in both offices, both ringing at the same time when dialed.

Is there any way to do this?

Thanks

Tom

ahays,

Ok here's what they want (but can it be done?!?!)

They want to have both extensions ring on each others vmail, ie: when they call ext 123 it rings on 456 and vice versa. They also want to keep their own voice mails.

Please advise.

Thanks again

OK ... then they need to have AMPLE buttons to do this. I'm going to use an 8410 as an example cause it's easy. Let's assume that User A is x1234 and User B is x1235

For both users, make sure bridged alerting is set to YES on page 2 of the station form. Also, make "Per Button Ring Control" YES on that same page.

User A's buttons (only the top three on each side are important):
1)call-app ..... 6)brdg-app 1235 1 r
2)call-app ..... 7)brdg-app 1235 2 r
3)call-app ..... 8)brdg-app 1235 3 r
4)send-calls ... 9)autodial 1200
5)priority ..... 10)last

User B's buttons (only the top three on each side are important):
1)call-app ..... 6)brdg-app 1234 1 r
2)call-app ..... 7)brdg-app 1234 2 r
3)call-app ..... 8)brdg-app 1234 3 r
4)send-calls ... 9)autodial 1200
5)priority ..... 10)last

This should do the trick for you. Bridged Appearances of each other's call-appearance buttons that ring at both desks.

Ahays,

Thanks for the info, I will try this later on today. They do have 8410d's so the button issue is no biggie.

Thanks again!

There is a system limitation ... but you'll likely never even come close to that. Just go until you run out of buttons.
