Where/what PBX code to turn on message light?

I have 10 small branch offices where I have Sys75, G1, G3v4-v9. I don’t want to purchase an expensive voice mail system like Audix or Octel. I found a company Aleen Tech who sells very inexpensive VM W/auto attended. I am still testing it for our application but I am stuck on how to turn-on the message light. Aleen tech tells me that it’s a PBX feature code that we need. Someone suggested using LWC but its not working. Help!!

LWC and LWC Cancel FACs are the way Octel lights lights and turns them off.

Re: Where/what PBX code to turn on message light?

Mode code is the generic interface that Avaya provides and is used by equipment that cannot use the higher and more efficient protocols. It sounds like this what you need.

If you need to use mode code, first go to your "ch sys fea" and look for the entry that says "Mode Code Interface" and change that to "y".

Then go to "ch sys mode" and enter the codes you want to use for that feature. You will also have to tell your voice mail the same codes.

Re: Where/what PBX code to turn on message light?

AL: I tried using LWC but it keeps giving me wave off tone. I have the feature code programmed as *4 to activate & #4 to de-activate and on the station side “LWC activation” is set to “Y”. What am I missing? Plus isn’t LWC deactivate must be performed from the same station?

Marty: PBX below v9 do not have “Mode Interface” feature. On one of my G3iv9 I was able to change “mode code interface” to “Y”. But when I do “cha sys mod” command, it gives me an invalided command. Any other solution?

Re: Where/what PBX code to turn on message light?

Mode code does exist in the System 75 because I have hooked up Audix Voice Power to them and that is the only way that product works. I do not believe it is in customer options (money page) but, frankly, I have not worked on a 75 in a very long time. I will have to see if I can find some of my old documentation.

As for the invalid command response, I will call into a 9.2 G3r that I have access to and see what it tells me tonight after everyone goes home.

You can activate and deactivate LWC for any phone from a phone that has console permissions.

Marty: I was able to turn on the message light by using LWC on a single analog phone. But I can’t turn off the LWC on an 8410D or 6408D+. I programmed both station similarly with LWC activated.

Did you use the "LWC Store" FAC to turn it on and the "LWC Cancel" FAC to turn it off?

Re: Where/what PBX code to turn on message light?

To use LWC to turn the MWI on and off the "LWC Reception" field (first line, second page) needs to be set for "spe". You can always turn the light on regardless of what the field says, but you cannot turn it off unless it says "spe". You will also not be able to turn it off if you turned it on while the field was set to "audix".

To turn the light off, no matter what turned it on, there is a command "cl amw all <sta #>". This will turn off the MWI.

Try your voice mail with the above option. LWC on/off codes and reception set to spe. Let us know if it works.

Re: Where/what PBX code to turn on message light?

Al/Marty: LWC works on both analog and digital sets. I had missed the LWC reception to “spe”, it was set to audex. Thanks.

Now step # 2 where I am stuck is: When the caller goes through the auto-attended to be transferred to an extension under supervised mode it does hook-switch-flash to dial the extension to conference. In the Ring no answer scenario the voice mail comes back with a message “that extension is not answering please leave a message” but it hasn’t dropped the conference with the extension. In other words I can hear the voice mail and the ring both at the same time. If I hang-up it is treated as a transfer and the phone just ring hence VM-port is stuck off-hook on that call.
Question: What dial string or PBX code to disconnect last conference-in call on an analog phone since all voicemail ports are analog?

Re: Where/what PBX code to turn on message light?

Is the phone itself ringing or are you just hearing ringback on your handset?

Re: Where/what PBX code to turn on message light?

The actual phone is ringing plus I could hear the ring on the hand set as well.

For a transfer via analog it works like this:
1) Flash hook to initiate transfer (and announce call, if desired).
2) Hang-up to complete transfer.

In the case of a conferrence, it works like this:
1) Flash hook to initiate conference (and announce call, if desired).
2) Flash hook to conference all parties.
3) Flash hook to drop last party added.

What it looks like is that if there is no answer the VM system is performing a flash hook to get back to the original caller ... except that the flash hook joins all parties (as in the conferrence scenerio). If I am correct, the VM system needs to flash a third time to drop the ringing phone.

Re: Where/what PBX code to turn on message light?

Al: inserting another flash solved the issue of dropping last conference-in. What version PBX has “LWC store” because I can’t find it in any of my PBX (Sys75,G1,G3v2-v11). Plus I just noticed that to activate or deactivate LWC, FAC code needs to be sent from the same ext#. My test ALEEN-VM always picks last port (i.e. different ext# to de-activate LWC which doesn’t work)

Question: in busy, ring-no-answer what code does PBX sends to the VM for VM to send the caller to its mailbox for message? I have a test station with a coverage path pointing to VM-hunt-group but VM treats it as a new call & the caller goes through auto-attendance. According to ALEEN tech, the PBX suppose to send a code xx followed by ext#(xyz). Where xx-tells the VM send this call to mailbox# xyz

I thought it would.

LWC Store is the digital button ... sorry about that. In Feature Access Codes the appropriate fields are: "Leave Word Calling Send A Message" and "Leave Word Calling Cancel A Message"

That's a problem. The SAME extension number must be used to turn on and off the light. There is no way around this.
