Connecting G650 via DS1C to center stage

We are attempting to connect a stack of G650's to our center stage with DS1C over T-1's. We have an S8700 CM2.1 with split center stage. Has anyone attempted this type of config. Avaya is saying G650 are IP connect only is that true?

Re: Connecting G650 via DS1C to center stage

Hello;

I'm not curtain but I do believ that some of the circuit packs required for a DS1C connected EPN are not supported in the G650. There should be a compatibity chart on Avaya's web site that shows you which packs these are. I would not be surprised if the TN1654 was on this list. You may need to install a SCC EPN at this location.

Re: Connecting G650 via DS1C to center stage

We have a setup like this, on a CM3.0 Multi-connect environment. What we were told was that before CM3.0 you were either IP-Connect or DCS but not both. Now with CM3.0 you can have both types of connections, although we are having some sychronization issues with the IP-connect port network.

The g650's still need to have IPSI's installed even if they are not used for the Signaling link. Here is the config of our DCS connected G650.
Code:
18A00 POWER SUPPLY 655A
18A01 IP SERVER INTFC TN2312BP HW07 FW022
18A02 MAINTENANCE/TEST TN771DP HW02 FW019
18A03 TONE DETECTOR TN748D 000007
18A04 DIGITAL LINE TN754B 000016
18A05 DIGITAL LINE TN754B 000016
18A06 DIGITAL LINE TN754B 000016
18A07 ANALOG LINE TN746B 000009
18A08 ANALOG LINE TN746B 000010
18A09 AUXILIARY TRUNK TN763D 000005
18A10 DS1 INTERFACE TN464F 000014
18A11 DS1 INTERFACE TN464F 000018
18A12 DS1 INTERFACE TN464F 000014
18A13 DS1 CONVERTER TN1654 000010
18A14 EXPANSION INTRFC TN570D 000005
When I list fib it shows the link to this port network as
Code:
 18 sni 01E16 01A08 ei 18A14 18A13 TN1654
Primary Facility:A A
Hope this info is helpful.

Re: Connecting G650 via DS1C to center stage

Does anyone have anything detaling the steps to add an epn to an s8710?
I'm looking for the command structure to administer the gateway and the DS1C connecting to the remote epn.

not to defeat the purpose of this whole forum, and i'll probably be flamed for saying this... adding a ds1-converted epn is no small chore, and is better left to the professionals. there are too many steps and caveats to go over in the scope of this forum.

just my opinion, though.

In my past life with Lucent/Avaya I have installed many DS1C connected remote EPNs (though I have never done a G650) so I won't disagree with the above statement. There are many factors to consider and I have listed some below.

How many T1s are you going to use? You can have up to four of them. One T1 has 1.44M bandwidth, will that be enough with a stack of carriers? You will use external 3150 CSUs with this and the options are not the default options. If you have more than one T1 it is absolutely critical that they be connected in the same sequence at each end. There are NO tests for these T1s in the switch (because the T1s do not connect directly to the switch), if there is a problem you have to go look at the CSUs to see what the lights display and then call the T1 vendor.

The Y cable that connects the TN1654 to the TN570 (and TN573) is prone to having problems, I did one job where I went through eight of them before finding two that worked.

The only difference in programming is on the fiber page where you answer yes to the question of whether this is connected by DS1C, this will give you a second page where you enter the DS1C parameters.

You can try doing this using this forum to assist just be aware that if you post a question here, it might be a day or more before you get an answer.

Actually, it's not rocket science and there are only a few steps. Basically, add cabinet, change circuit-packs, and add fiber ... but Marty is correct in that it's the hardware "gotcha's" that are the real pain in the ass. 90% of the time it should go off without a hitch ... but it's that 10% that will jump up and bite you in the rear.
