Hi All,
Any Techies out there? I need help. I need to tie in Avaya PBX's with our Hotel Front of House Software so that calls can go staright onto a resident's bill. I have no clue where to start and any pointers would be fantastic. It would be great if I could get my hands on a PBX to play with. Any ideas of somebody who may lend me one or where I can pick up a cheap/second-hand one. How much should I pay if I go for this option. All advice gratefully received. ![]() Last edited by mr_angus; July 15th, 2003 at 02:43 AM. |

What type of PBX and what release (G3si or Prologix)? Will your "Front of House Software" accept a serial SMDR feed direct from the PBX? If it will then the solution should be rather simple. If it will not, then what format is the software expecting and how does it expect to receive the call info?

Eventually we will be looking to integrate with as many types as possible and I am not sure which of the two mentioned above will be first. However we are planning to write an interface to accept a serial feed. Perhaps you could explain the SMDR a little further for me. I hope you are right about the simple bit!! :)

SMDR (Station Message Detail Recording) aka CDR (Call Detail Recording) is pretty simple. The command to setup is "change system-parameters cdr" The location of the CDR dump will depend on the system that you have. For G3si, once you specify the format type you can direct the output to the DCE port on the rear of the PBX by specifying "eia" as the output extension. If your EIA port is in use you can also set up a data mod (ex. 8400B) and specify the data mod extension number for output. If you change the format type to custom and additional page will populate allowing you to build your CDR stream from scratch.
Chapter 13 of Installation for Adjuncts and Peripherals (555-233-116) goes into great detail on hooking up CDR. It's a large document but you can download it here: http://support.avaya.com/elmodocs2/d...2/233116_2.zip

The above link to the ZIP file is bad on Avaya's site. Here's a working link to the PDF file: http://support.avaya.com/elmodocs2/d...2/233116_2.pdf

Thanks Al that is fantastic stuff. Any more gems of knowledge and help like that would be wonderful. I don't suppose you have experience with the Siemens 100e do you. We have a customer who wants us to tie in with his Siemens pbx.
What have I got myself into :) |

Interesting point. I actually put a post in the Siemens forum but no response. I am amazed to see the difference in activity between the two forums. Why is that? Is it because the Avaya kit is far more popular or is it that it has more problems? I suspect it is just the more commonly used. Anyway....I'm making some progress now but still a long way to go :) Thanks for your help so far guys!!

No, I think the word has not spread to the Siemens community yet.

Well Folks,
Your help was fantastic. We are now logging calls!! My next mission is to find out how to connect as many different PBX model's as possible to my laptop. I.e. I need to know the serial cable pin configs in order to make up cables for connecting to the smdr in order to capture data streams. If any of you have any cable config info please let me have it. I really appreciate your help so far. email: angus@spiration.co.uk Thanks!! Last edited by mr_angus; July 15th, 2003 at 02:40 AM. |
