ATAs with S8700

We're trying to get an Analog Telephone/Terminal Adapter working with our S8700. We purchased an ATA that uses H.323 and have added an extension into the PBX with a plain H.323 as the station type. The ATA has the CLAN configured as the Gatekeeper address and the extension is set as the E.164 and H.323 alias/ID.

The ATA, however, is unable to register with the CLAN. When I do a ras trace on the ip address of the ATA, here is what I get:

denial event 1953: IP GRJ-Invld auth capblty endpt 10.4.20.66 data0:0x0

Is there any way to get this working? When we attempt to use a standard software H.323 client (such as ohPhoneX on Mac OS or Gnome Meeting, we get the same results. Does the S8700 just not allow standard H.323 clients to connect or am I missing some minute setting somewhere that allows this?

Hello mgriego.

Avaya maintenance guide says: "Gatekeeper request rejected because the gatekeeper supports a capability that the registering endpoint does not.".

I haven't seen this error in my pbx never.

I've configured the ATA to use G.711 mLaw, however I can't even get it to register with the gatekeeper. The codec shouldn't come into play until after that, when a call is actually placed.

Maybe. I'm getting denial 1926, haven't got past that... I'd like to get this working too. Let me know if you make any progress, I'll do the same...

Will do. I get a 1926 if I leave the Password field in my ATA blank. If I fill it in, I'm getting the error I reported above. It's almost like it's expecting to do a challenge/response type of authentication.

Anyway, I did get a doc from Avaya on how to get a MultiVOIP ATA working, however it looks like there's a special build of the MultiVOIP firmware to work with the Avaya PBX, so I don't hold out much hope for that.

I'm toying with the idea of setting up a signalling group and seeing if that works with the ATA, but I'm not convinced that will do anything. I may just have to wait until we get the SIP connector ordered and go that route.

What version do you have loaded on your ATA now? What's the build Avaya recommends?

I'm not using a MultiVOIP ATA, I'm using the CG-101E from Clipcomm. Avaya just gave us the doc for the MultiVOIP as an example doc.
