Virtual Extensions

I'm created an extension with a type of Virtual and I tried to forward this to an outside number, which took, but when I dial it I get fast busy. Am I missing a setting?

Re: Virtual Extensions

I have tried the same thing in the past, it never worked. I don't know why, but have allways used at least an x port extension if I need to forward/cover off sight.

Re: Virtual Extensions

Then what is the benefit of a virtual extension then? Can you use these as bridged appearances? I thought they were to save you capacity.

Re: Virtual Extensions

Well, if your auto attendant was in vectors you would need extensions for remote users. So say you have a lot of sales people that don't have a real phone but they need voicemail, their business card says to call your main number and dial their extension. They have no phone, but you want it to cover into a certain voicemail box. Then you set the vm up to outcall/notify them.

Re: Virtual Extensions

I wasn't able to directly forward virtual extension either, but here is what I do to work around this:
1. Create virtual ext.
2. Enter the number you want your ext. to dial into remote call coverage table (note the line number – 01, 02, etc.) "change coverage remote"
3. Create coverage path and assign it to the virtual ext.
4. In coverage path for point 1 enter "rxx" where xx is the line number from remote call coverage table.
hope it helps
grig ;)
