Can't launch ASA

One of my users is having trouble launching ASA. We're using R1.9.06; it's been installed and used on the PC in question for at least a year. For some reason this week, when trying to launch ASA, a setup dialog launches: "ASA needs to be connected to a switch to function fully, and you do not have a connection to a switch set up. Would you like to set one up now?".

I completed setup assuming that the user had somehow wiped out her settings. After setup was complete, the user was able to connect temporarily. When the program was closed, the following error appeared: "Access to persist.dat was denied". When program was relaunched, the original setup dialog appeared again.

I removed the program, reinstalled, set it up, logged in as user and as myself with no problems. (All while logged in as admin on the PC). Once the user logged onto the machine as herself, the same errors occured. If logging into ASA from another PC with same ASA setup, no errors...so I assume it's local to her PC, a persist.dat file issue? I'm at a complete loss.

We have a Definity G3 R9i.05.1.122.4. As mentioned above, we use ASA R1.9.06.

Re: Can't launch ASA

Sounds like you or someone needs to rebuild the PC.

The persist.dat file is the file where all your settings are stored. IP address, ports, name of switch, etc.

After you make changes in ASA you need to press save (F12) in order to save your changes. If you reboot with saving, your changes are gone.

Re: Can't launch ASA

I would also make sure this person has Read+Write access to C:\Program Files\Avaya

Wow...rebuild the PC? Even if I can access ASA on this machine logged in as admin? I'll take a look at the folder permissions. (can you tell i'm not a PC tech?)

Re: Can't launch ASA

I had the same problem. I resolved it by rebuilding the local profile.

Re: Can't launch ASA

ASA updates the Persist.dat file every time you exit the program so if they can't write to the directory it won't work properly.
