Quote:
The G700 is one of many Media Gateways. A Media Gateway is a shelf that holds Media Modules (i.e. circuit packs ... Analog Line, Digital Line, DS1, etc.). However, the G700 is generally associated with the S8300. The G650 Media Gateway is more typically used with the S8700/S8710 platform. For a better understanding of the Communication Manager platform I recommend that you goto http://www.avaya-learning.com and take the course AVA00170: Avaya Media Servers and Gateways. regs, .al.

Re: Diffrence between SERVER & media gateways
You can also find pictures of all of the following here:
http://avaya.com/gcm/master-usa/en-u.../productaz.htm Media servers = brains Gateways = port networks The S8300 is the 'processor' module that is used in a G700 media gateway which has a limited number of non-standard circuit pack slots. S8700/S8710 are standalone brains that have no slots for circuit packs G650s are port networks only, or for typical circuit packs like Mr. .al. says. In a system you might have a G700 w/ S8300 and an expansion module for more digital stations and a DS1. Complete phone system in 2u. For a larger system you will have an S8700/S8710 which is actually two servers one the active PBX 'Brain' the other is an active passive server. These would be connected via IP to a G650 which will house all your trunk and port cards.
