VoIP and QOS

Anyone here doing remote locations via broadband? Our network today has several hundred remote locations, several of which are (today) networked via broadband connections with VPN tunnels. Since using this scenario does not give me any opportunity to do QoS on the WAN, it makes me a bit nervous. Does prioritization at the edge provide enough of a guarantee for business class service and reliablity?

Re: VoIP and QOS

You will probably have problems with this type of setup. Although I have not done it. I can say that when I work from home using broadband and a roadwarrior phone, I sometime get poor quality on the call. I can't imagine what whould happen when you have multiple calls + data. If you are going to try it, use a codec with the most compression and hope for the best. Good luck!

Re: VoIP and QOS

+1

Broadband ISPs do not guarantee service speed and do not offer QOS. In my experience using it it works well most of the time and get some clipping infrequently. I am also very lucky to have such stable service as I hear co-workers and friends.. that have their broadband service 'flake out' frequently.

Luck of the draw man. It isn't a 'business solution' but it is a solution.
