MWI with Meridian Mail
We have an S8700 with a Modular Messaging server that we are in the process of migrating to from a Nortel Option 81 with Meridian Mail. The systems are interconnected via an ISDN/QSIG trunk.
Here's my problem: If I have a user that is using of the Avaya IP phones (4620 in this case) but I leave that user on Meridian Mail, his MWI won't light when a message is left. However, if I activate the MWI and then go into Meridian Mail and clear the messages out, it *will* clear the MWI. From the best that I can tell, the QSIG-MWI is all set up correctly and the MW messages are being routed correctly (due to the fact that it *will* turn the indicator off, just not on). Modular Messaging MWI works as expected. I did a "list trace tac #/q" so I could watch the interactions and differences between MM and Meridian when they sent the MWI update messages, and here are the results: If I set my coverage path to point to the Meridian Mail system and leave a message, I get this: 10:59:46 QSIG<in MW_ACT Invk 6194 invkid 0x0 If I set my coverage path to point to the Modular Messaging server and leave a message, I get this. 10:59:46 QSIG<in MW_ACT Invk 6194 invkid 0x1 As you can see, the only debugging difference is the "invkid" is 0x0 when it doesn't work and 0x1 when it does work. I'm not sure what this means, but it does seem to be a difference. Also notice that both messages are indeed activate messages, but the one with the invkid of 0x0 turns the light off! Anyway, if I clear the messages from the mailboxes, here are the debug results: If I clear messages from Meridian Mail, here is what I get: 11:03:57 QSIG<in MW_DEACT Invk 6194 invkid 0x0 Note the invkid is 0x0 here as before with Meridian Mail. If I clear messages from Modular Messaging, this is what I get: 11:07:43 QSIG<in MW_DEACT Invk 6194 invkid 0x1 Note the invkid is 0x1 as before with Modular Messaging. It almost seems like the PBX is treating all MWI messages coming from the Nortel PBX/Meridian Mail system with invkid 0x0 as lamp *off* messages. It's very wierd. Anyone have any ideas on this one? Thanks. --Mike |

Nope, haven't heard back from Avaya on it either. I got a cop-out answer from our local sales guy when I asked him about it, but I don't really expect him to know anyway. Honestly, for us, its been sort of back-burnered since we're pretty much all set up with Modular Messaging now. |

Re: MWI with Meridian Mail
Thanks for the quick response. Please respond if Avaya ever follows up and provides the answer, hopefully it's before you want to integrate a non-proprietary system. In the meantime, we'll keep looking.
Hopefully you got free maintenance with your new system :) Thanks... |
