planning for new ddi range

we have just 100 ddi and want to add another 100 ddi to our two-way ISDN trunk. We use 5 digit extns. This switch connects to another one with a UDP 303 and 304, so extns 303xx-304xx map to that switch. In a year or two we may add a third switch.

At present our ddi numbers match our extns nicely so that ddi xxx-xx6-1200(to 1299) go to extn 61200-61299. Our provider gives us 6 digits in our dnis so we just drop the first one in our trunk setup.

The provider cannot give us xxx-xx6-1300(to 1399) and indeed cant even tell us whats available, but rather they leave it up to the users to request a ddi range and they will try to accomodate.

our dial plan

0 1 attd
1 3 dac
3 5 ext
4 5 ext
6 5 ext
7 1 fac
9 1 fac
* 3 fac
# 3 fac

So what should i suggest? Is it best to match as many digits as possible from the ddi to the 5-digit extn or should i try to keep a nice extn sequence going (61300-61399) but which results in only the last four ddi digits matching?

to use extns 61300-61399, i could ask for any 100 ddi block whose last four digits started with 1300, hence xxx-xxx-1300 BUT if they gave me xxx-xx4-1300 it would be better to map that to extn 41300. same applies to xxx-xx3-1300 ,xxx-xx5-1300 that may be used in the future.

So looking at the dial plan, i could ask for xxx-xx0-1300, xxx-xx1-1300, xxx-xx7-1300 and xxx-xx9-1300 unless the answer to my question is that its better to match 5 ddi than keeping a sequence going.

thanks,

hammer

Re: planning for new ddi range

It's a preference to how organized you would like your dialplan to be. What's easiest to maintain? In a DCS network with several switches using a 5-digit extension plan, I would try to keep the leading digit exclusive to each switch (ie 3-xxxx Switch A, 4-xxxx Switch B, 5-xxxx Switch C) and then fill the 10,000 block on each before introducing another leading digit. That's just a preference tho...
