What exactly do you mean by "trunk audit?"

Re: Trunk Audit

I was tasked to look at our trunks and see if we have to many or to little.

Ahhh ... you mean a Trunk Group Analysis! This feature is built-in to ASA and the following is cut-n-pasted directly from ASA Help:

Collecting Trunk Data

Avaya Site Administration provides a tool called the Trunk Analyzer that enables you to measure trunk groups and determine how many trunks are required to achieve a desired grade of service. The Trunk Analyzer tracks the performance and capacity of trunk groups. It measures and assesses trunk groups against a specific grade of service (GOS). Using the Trunk Analyzer, you can collect daily trunk statistics, then use that data to determine the performance of the trunks using a traffic modeling method.

Once the data has been collected from the switch, Avaya Site Administration can produce a report that recommends how many trunks to add or remove in order to achieve the grade of service you require.

Note: It is recommended that you collect 30 to 45 days of trunk data to get a representative set of trunk data.

To collect trunk data using the Trunk Analyzer, complete the following steps:
  • 1 In the Target System box on the toolbar, select the switch whose trunks you want to measure.
  • 2 On the browser pane, click the Tasks tab.
  • 3 On the Tasks tab, click Fault and Performance.
  • 4 Click Trunk Analyzer.
  • 5 Are you prompted to set up the Trunk Analyzer?:
    • · If yes, no trunk data has been collected yet, and you will need to set up the Trunk Analyzer. If this is the case, click Yes at the Setup prompt and complete the subsequent Task Analyzer screens. If you need help with a screen, click Help on that screen.
    • · If no, the Trunk Analyzer has been set up, and the Trunk Analyzer Report Properties screen appears. If you need help with any of the subsequent screens, click Help on that screen.
So, basically you'll need to set up ASA to collect the data. I'd recommend doing this in the wee hours of the morning. Then you'll need to wait several weeks (they recommend 30-45 days) to get enough data to accurately analyze your trunking. Once it's done, ASA will give you a recommendation on each trunk group ... i.e. over trunked by 10 trunks, undertrunked, etc.

Remember: The PC collecting the data must be ON WITH ASA RUNNING during the scheduled time in order that the data you will need to perform the analysis is collected.

regs,

I like to use:

list measurements blockage pn (yesterday, today, last-hour)

Gives you an idea of the amount of traffic during peak times.
