Question Interswitch Directory

I've been asked to create an interswitch directory that includes all extensions over 4 hospitals. For instance, an employee in Hospital A wants to hit the directory button and be able to see extensions in Hospital B, C, and D.

The other alternative is to use the Modular Messaging. Even though there are 4 separate hospitals, all switches tie into the same voicemail system. I was able to get to the "enter the person's last name" cue when I call the VM DID and then *-#.

Any suggestions? I've looked back in the history and saw something that mentioned "INTEGRATED DIRECTORY SERVICE over DCS" but I can't find anything online about it. Each switch is an S8700 running V12.

Thanks in advance.

The feature is indeed named "Integrated Directory Service over DCS (IDS+)" and is what Avaya officially calls a "Special Application" but which is commonly referred to as a Green Feature. An Avaya Special Application (Green Feature) is defined as:
" ... those custom features developed by the Avaya global rapid response team to meet a particular customer’s need. Each feature is ordered through the rapid response team as an al la carte item. Special ordering and provisioning procedures apply. Contact your Avaya Sales representative or authorized Avaya business partner for more information."

Re: Interswitch Directory

What you're looking for is in fact - "IDS+" Integrated Directory Services (the "+" as in many AVAYA/Lucent offers means "over PRI"). We use it to provide one common directory via the phone for 13 nodes.

As Al states it is a green feature.

It works via TSC's, like many of the features of DCS+.

Depending on your teleco provider(s) it MAY be possible to utilize IDS+ over the public network. We use only MCI Option 2 Vision NQUEST features and we have successfully pushed TSC's across our "SDN". But, after two people try to access the directory at the same time - MCI shuts it down beacuse of too many messages going across. Since it sounds like you only have 4 nodes, it might be less of an issue.

We're on a N-5ish release. All G3r's v10 and I believe Communication Manager can push DCS+ via IP. Thus, it may be possible to utilize IDS+ via IP Trunking and not have to worry about Point-To-Points PRI's for a "traditional" DCS+ network.

Hope that helps a bit. Good luck.

Unhappy Re: Interswitch Directory

It figures that It would cost more money to have this. I would like to set this up. It would be cool, but I would not be able to justifty the cost to my superior as we already have a global phone book in Lotus Notes :(

Re: Interswitch Directory

I have two switches and since i implemented Dial by Name on them both by using vectors, users can dial the DBN VDN of the other switch to find the users. The IDS is nice to have but was too expensive.

hammer.
