Asa

I have a copy of ASA 1.12 loaded on my system and have several hundred systems set up in the persist.dat file. Does anyone know how to upgrade to ASA 2.1 and be able to continue using the same persist.dat file. When I try and load 2.1, I get and error stating that a previous unsupported verison is loaded and I need to load the supported version and then upgrade. Anyone else had this problem? I really don't want to uninstall and have to redo all the systems that I have loaded in the system. I do have a backup of my persist.dat file, however. If I can't reuse the same persist.dat file, is there a way to export all of my systems and import them on the new load?

Thanks for any help

Chris

Re: Asa

I had this.. the only way to do this is back up your persist.dat file and start over.. also, I had to install Java from Integrated management.. in other words, start over.. I also applied a 2.1UU13 patch (something like that anyway) after 2.1.1...

sO I too had 2.1.1, but yet was receiving an error.. "please install 2.1.1.." etc.

Re: Asa

I was not able to reuse our persist file when upgrading from 1.9 to 2.1 I manually entered the system info. If someone knows otherwise please post as we still have some clients to upgrade.

Re: Asa

What version of 1.1xxx did you have? Also, even if we can't use the persist.dat file, is there a way to export all of the systems out and at least have them in an exel spreadsheet? In other words, can we pull any data from the persist.dat file?

Re: Asa

Truthfully, I don't know how to import sites easily, other than replacing persist.dat...

we used 1.13.5

Re: Asa

Are we sure the info is stored in persist.dat?
I just pulled mine and the config info stayed in ASA. Further, I parsed it (persist.dat) in a text editor and couldn't find any of the config info (i.e.. I couldn't find the names of the connections, nor their IP addresses/modem phone numbers).

Re: Asa

If I am not mistaken, under the old versions it was in the persist.dat file. I am unsure under the new systems. If you have an old version, you can open persist.dat with excel and actually see some of the data but it is in no particular order to extract out of the excel file.

Re: Asa

Hi, the data is within the persist.dat folder.. when I restore it on 2.2, it works. When I did not, the data was not there.

Re: Asa

I moved my persist.dat files to another place in my desktop before I installed the new version. Then afterwards, I was able to put it back (in a new place, thanks AVAYA) and have all my data (Processor Occupancy, etc.) saved.

The files should be moved out before you start the install and back in after you're done. AVAYA has done a funny thing and makes you put the files NOT back to where they were, you put them into c:\Documents and Settings\Application\AVAYA\Site Administration\User
  • persist.dat
  • All your Processor Occupancy
  • All you XXXX.ter (XXX is your PBX name)
  • Your template Data
  • Your Trunk Group Analyzer Data

Re: Asa

Hey all,
Just got back from vacation but wanted to reply and thank everyone. Replacing the persist file did work and it is nice to not have to re enter all that login info. When I upgraded the old persist file was in c:\Avaya\Asa\User, now it appears in c:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\Avaya\User\ . Good to know you can back up the file in case of errors.
