ip phones- one way traffic

Hi everybody,

A site has ip-phones. The ip phones able to call out but the distant party cannot hear his voice. We have informed to the IT security to check the range of the udp ports use for the menpro to verify are there any voice encryption/ restriction. The IT security has informed us that the ports are 'free' thus we do an0ther round of test but still the same.

The other time I have read somewhere a forum that the CISCO switch or router need to turn off ' no ip redirects' to the Cisco router. Is that scenario the same as this?

Thanks

After adding no ip redirects to my Cisco router, voice traffic started to come through. All seems well for now. Even though it did not matter, I also changed Intra-region IP-IP Direct Audio and Inter-region IP-IP Direct Audio in IP network region to "N". However, it still works with these settings left on "Y".

Re: ip phones- one way traffic

Correct. I had the same issue as you are having. When the Medpro and the CLAN had the correct gateway as my Cisco router, I lost every other packet to the Medpro and voice traffic did not work.

I did an experiment by adding our firwall's IP address as the gateway for both the medpro and clan. This allowed my voice traffic to work correctly. Since our router was on the other side of our firewall and wide open for ports, it should allow the traffic. However, it did not. I had to add the no ip redirects to the router to get the traffic to work for voice.

Also make sure your ip-codex-set is either G.711 or G.729. Ours was G.711 but I changed it to G.729 because of the static I received on G.711. It may work OK for you.

After all that bag of wind, your problem seems to be very close to the issue I ran into.

I have also had this problem with some Avaya 4610SW's which were defective out of the box. Out of 10 sets 2 were defective, and only recieved traffic but would not transmit.
