Intuity LX & Telnet/ASA

I'm trying to telnet to a new Intuity LX via the RAS connection and it doesn't appear that the telnet port is open. I can ping withouu a problem and administer the box via http, but no telnet. I see that other tcp/udp ports are open (i.e. SSH, SMTP, HTTP, etc). My goal is to use ASA via the RAS connection to import a list of subscribers. Does anyone know if this is possible? Do I need to enable telnet on the LX? I can't imagine telnet is permanently disabled. Another TCP port perhaps? The Intuity LX is version 1.1. Any advice is appreciated.

Re: Intuity LX & Telnet/ASA

Avaya has told us that you can only administer an Intuity LX using the SA password via a web interface such as Internet Explorer. Enter the IP address of the LX as the web address you want to connect to. Supposedly you can telnet using the VM password and port 23 but I could not get that to work because port 23 is locked by Avaya.

Re: Intuity LX & Telnet/ASA

The way Avaya, if you can believe this, administers an LX, from my experience... is they require a modem--connected PC on a network accessible via web browser to the URL of the Intuity LX. As far as I know, there's no modem access whatsoever.. and definitely no ASA access, either. It's all web-based. From there, it's Java within the web interface.

I don't think the LX supports telnet, either.. who knows. I have tried it to no avail. As far as I am concerned, the LAN goes down, you cannot administer the LX. If I am wrong, I am sorry.. but our vendors in Europe are adamant about PC Anywhere and using the browser.. it's gotten so ridiculous in some cases that if we change the "sa" password, we have to notify the vendor.. the LX is pretty stable, though, and very cheap in $$$.

another thing.. if the LAN goes down.. the LX goes offline anyway.. or its link does.. we all know this, but I love pontification.

Re: Intuity LX & Telnet/ASA

Sometimes you have to add several hundred subscribers at at time, like we do as installers, so using the import feature of ASA is the quickest way to do this. The VM login is the only login that can be used for telnet access once the telnet port is opened.

Re: Intuity LX & Telnet/ASA

I learn something new everyday. The comical thing is.. I don't think Avaya's Partners realize this, nor some @ avaya.. or they simply don't want to open it up. I just had a BP in Saudi Arabia input 100 subsribers brand new.. he could have used ASA. I asked him about it.. he says the LX does not support ASA. This is an Avaya Partner, if you can believe it. And I've always thought Partners knew the products.. Another time, in Denver TSO.. they made me hook up a PC via web, using PC anywhere.. they accessed the LX via browser.. that was a TierIII guy.

Re: Intuity LX & Telnet/ASA

Usaully only Avaya staff know the tsc login password which means you have to get Avaya to open port 23.
however if you install the operating system from scratch and get the opportunity to create your own tsc password or if you can guess it, the the commands to open port 23 are; (enable_incoming_telnet_service), including underscores, and; (enable_outgoing_telnet_service)
now you can login using ASA and the vm login
