Can a 2420 be used as a console?

We have an S8700 system running V12.

Our Admitting Manager wants to be able to have a second position installed for the Operator, but does not want to purchase a second console. I remember seeing something a long time ago in the Avaya docs regarding using a telephone as a console.

Is it possible to use a 2420 w/EU-24 exapansion interface as a second console? If so, how? I would need to have it in queue with the primary console - would I need to create an alias?

Thanks in advance.

I believe that the best solution is to have this phone as a backup console. You cannot have a digital phone and a console working in parallel as consoles

A better solution might be to have IP Console which will allow you to have a hard console in addition to the PC application version.

That's the thought I'm going with - how would I do something like that? I've read that calls can be routed anywhere if the queue stacks up, but I'm not sure how to proceed with that.

You could use the 'backup alerting' feature for the 2420 phone. It makes calls that go into cue light a button on any phone with the button and the 2420 person can use the 'tass' features access code to pick up the call

If you have call center software; ie spits/skills; you can convert the Attd to an Extension and queue calls to a split. Then any phone that can log in can take calls. It takes a lot of work to make "0" an extension as there are many interactions. But it's worth it if you operate a call center, especially if you have CMS. The "Operators" just become another split to measure, monitor and route to via vectors.
