4620 IP Avaya Phone Buzzing
Sporadically we have an IP phone that buzzes when on-hook. Our other IP phones do not do this. We've replaced the phone, all cables, and even placed a surge protector between the phone and the power receptacle.
Avaya is unclear as to why this is occurring. Another user's phone, one office over, never does this. It's sporadic.. very odd. I figured it was because of something wireless.. but that cannot be it, either. Too many other IP phones don't buzz. the buzz lasts about 10 seconds. Happens every few days. |

Is your wiring in the wall or ceiling going by or lying on anything that could cause interference (flourescent lights, power sources, a fan on the desk...)? Lights are the cause of this many times.
Also, you may want to check this stations settings compared to one that is working correctly. It is possible that one setting could be causing your issue. |

The wire is along the cube pod. The other IP phones running within the cube pod run off the same horizontal feeds..
Lights could be the issue... who knows. When we programmed we duped the stations.. meaning they are all identical.. it's quite bizarre, but thanks for the suggestions of the lighting.. who knows. |

I'm not a Definity person - but on other systems I have seen this were background music was inadvertently enabled on the phone - and there was no music source connected to PBX. This can yield a buzz when on hook.

I think the issue may be with the cable. Try moving the "problem" phone to a different jack. If there is still buzzing, the phone is at fault. If not, I would guess the cable. Do you have some type of cable analyzer that can do a complete test on the cable.

Re: 4620 IP Avaya Phone Buzzing
here's the answer. A certain "band" of Blackberry causes the buzzing.. and can cause this buzzing from about 10 feet away. Only phones using an international band can cause the buzzing.. all other cell phones seem fine from 1" away. Comical so much time wasted on this.. Replaced were the phone, all cable, house-cable, power supply..

Re: 4620 IP Avaya Phone Buzzing
Any GSM device can trigger the buzzing. Problem is, we have some users that experience it even when there is no GSM device anywhere near them. We could have a cell phone tower near us but don't know of any.
GSM phones (Cingular & T Mobile) don't signal hop the way CDMA phones (Sprint & Verizon) do. They emit a constant signal on a single frequency which could be causing feedback. GSM devices are 1.9 GHz, which I believe corresponds to a wavelength of 6.2 inches. I have a theory that there is a wire in the echo cancelation circuit that permits full duplex speaker operation that is acting as a full wave antenna - but have no way to prove it. Avaya will admit nothing. The only workaround we have, and it's not a good one, is to have the user turn down their speaker when they aren't using it. |

OK; I installed a 4625, color.. it does not buzz.. apparently they thought enough to fix this sort of issue with future phones.. either that or it's because Rush has not toured this year.

Re: 4620 IP Avaya Phone Buzzing
still fine.. I think Avaya has addressed the issue.. the 4625 is a color phone, same phone as 4620, just in color.. also, prior to 3.0.. this phone must be programmed as a 4620..
It's a nice phone overall.. not as nice as the 4630, but hey, that's been discontinued.. I think the buzzing has been addressed.. by now, I'd have noticed it.. that being said, I don't see us straying from DCP sets anytime soon.. at least with Avaya, we have a choice.. I love that DCP phones can use IP OR traditional signalling.. it allow flexibility.. especially when most people already have CAT3 voice cabling.. |
