DHCP Conflict on 4620's....
Hello all!
This has happened a couple of times and I'm not sure I am convinced that it's a telephone issue but instead a DHCP server issue. I have a 4620 that is working fine and with the latest version software. I will disconnect the telephone and reconnect it to the same jack. Upon boot, I get the message 'DHCP conflict' in the display. I have the lease removed from the DHCP scope yet I still get the same display message 'DHCP conflict". I move the phone to a different v-lan and it boots properly. This happens rarely. The DHCP server guys tell me it's not their issue..... Anyone have this problem? Thanks in advance! -Mike |

I had the same problem before. they way we set this up now is to always use reservations on the dhcp servers using the mac address of the phones. I have never been able to find a way around this problem. if you find one please let me know.

Re: DHCP Conflict on 4620's....
Thanks for your replies! Unfortunately, our DHCP owner is not willing to assign an infinite lease for the telephones. We have folks moving constantly from floor to floor and they move their telephones with them, so they would have a lease on previous and current floor vlans. And the DHCP owner does not want to assign reserve ip's via mac addresses for each phone. :smack:
Considering this happens once in a blue moon, I'm going to suggest a longer lease time. Let's say 30 days, so the telephones will send a request every 15 days. I do believe they currently have the lease set to three days. I found in one of Avaya's docs that the lease should be six weeks. Thanks again, and everyone have a great holiday! -Mike |

Re: DHCP Conflict on 4620's....
Depending on how your network is set up, you could possibly eliminate the problem. First off, you could reserve a range of IP Addresses in the scope at the group level (Avaya product) with longer durations.. Secondly, if you are using multiple VLAN's and have the phones on a separate VLAN then you can extend the dhcp duration just for that scope. Moving between floor's would not be an issue if you have different VLAN's/Subnet since the DHCP server should recognize the MAC address registering and remove the old IP Address association.
