S8300 Issues..

I'll start with the minor one.....

Loudspeaker paging: We are trying to configure a port on an MM711 Analog for paging. We have tried UPAMs, hard wiring speaker leads on a digital set as well configuring the port as both a CO trunk and an analog station. No matter what we do or whether or not we have a buttset hooked to the port we get a busy signal. Of course the documentation references commands that aren't available on the 8300.....

Now the major trouble...... We do have a ticket open with Avaya, but so far it's been no help....

Being a Telecom company we of course all have have modems for dialing into the respective system, whether it be Partner, Legend/Magix, Definity, Octel etc.....

Our config consists of the 8300 and 2 G700's, using PRI(the same circuit we had used with our Prologix), the 2 G700's are populated with 1 MM712( at the time it's turned down as we are using mode code integration with an Octel) and 6 MM711's. Modems and faxes have VERY unreliable operation, at the times we can connect to an external system, more often then not we notice the connection is very "slow". TSO is saying that there should be no trouble, but from our Distributor we are hearing that there is an issue with the 711 cards but Avaya is waiting till there are enough complaints. We have a similar issue at a customer site that Avaya installed. There modems and faxes troubles were all at the remote end, which is linked via IP, that ticket was written up as "fax over IP" issues which at this time is unsupported (why? we can do it with with an IP Office!) so they are not "related" issues as far as Avaya is concerned, the fix for the customer was to put in POTS lines... and Avaya promised them a free upgrade.... obviously for the amount of modems we have this is not feasible for us, besides the fact that we shouldn't have too.

Any ideas? Voice quality on the analog ports is wonderful, data is the only issue.....

Re: S8300 Issues..

Let me know if you ever get it resolved.

According to my contacts at Avaya, the problem is in the MM cards. We are experiencing the same issues with G350's and any analog connection. There appears to be a "known issue" with regard to the Gateways that use the Media Modules. This was great information to learn after installing G350's at 2 of our sites. When asked at the last user convention, an Avaya speaker acknowledge the problem, and stated that it has not been resolved, yet.

I had a similar problem with an IP Office and what was required was one of those small, white, System 25 Music on Hold boxes (aparently there's some minor electronics inside that allows this to work). The part number (material code) is 406541078 and they're less than 50 bucks. I was able to get paging to work before putting this box inline by clipping my buttset on and leaving it off-hook while dialing the page codes from another phone (yeah ... it was bizzare). Once this box was placed inline I could remove my buttset and all worked properly.

Re: S8300 Issues..

Update.......

We are being shipped the 2.1.1 upgrade disc's. Avay shipped it as just 2.1 and they are saying that this is related to fax and modem over IP which isn't supported until 2.1.1. 'Course my question is... why has it always been supported on IP Office.... oh well.

In a nut shell, even though we are doing NO IP trunking, the connectivity between the gateways and the 8300 is an ethernet/IP connection.... therefore it falls into the unsupported area!!! Cheesy if you ask me.... I will let you know if the upgrade takes care it!

Re: S8300 Issues..

Well, the upgrade and patches didn't entirely do the job... we had to play with some of the IP Codec settings, but modems and faxes are working like a charm!!! But we still can't get loudspeaker paging!!

Re: S8300 Issues..

Greetings! We have a new implementation of an 8500 with 8300's on remote sites. We're having the same issue with about 15% of our faxes being all wanky. Looks like it's even happening within the same stack of 8300's, crossing over the octoplane cable. i.e. call comes in on a DS1 in the first box, crosses the plane to the second box where the analog board is.

Can you give me a little more specific information about the the codec settings you changed? Maybe it'd be just the thing I need in this case.

Thanks!

Glenn
