Installing T1

I'm preparing to add a new T1 to a G3R v11. I've added a T1 to an existing board, but this time I have a choice (no existing hardware for this one). I'm looking at ordering a TN464GP or a TN767E. Why would I want a TN464 as opposed to a TN767?

the 464 will support ISDN/PRI signalling and is also firmware upgradeable.

Re: Installing T1

also TN767 is kinda legacy... if you upgrade to an S8500/S8700 you'll need to upgrade to a TN464. I'm dealing with that issue this week. If you want a TN767 I'll trade you for some other card... I've got about 6 of them here, all useless to me.

I have several 767E packs running with an s8700 processor.

The TN767 will also support ISDN-PRI signalling in a FAS environment. What it will NOT do is ISDN-PRI signalling in an NFAS configuration. The TN767 is OK as an ISDN-EXT in an NFAS arrangement but will only support the D-Channel in a FAS configuration.

Only the TN464GP supports firmware upgrades. FYI: The "P" suffix on all circuit pack types indicates that the card is firmware upgradable.

I think someone has fed you a line of baloney. I have several customers using TN767's in S8700 systems.

Re: Installing T1

Yes, then I definitely got a "line" of some sort... when they installed the 8700 they said (1) you can't put a card in slot a01 of the EPN carrier, and (2) TN767 cards won't work when you upgrade from G3si to 8700. Is the a01 statement true, to your knowledge?

The TN767 is being replaced by the TN2313. (Funny, but new TN2313s are actually cheaper than TN767s). However, the TN767 still works in S8700 and S8500 implementations with the exceptions that are noted in my previous post (which are specific to the card itself and not the media server).

A01 is the "Expansion Interface" slot and is typically reserved for TN570 EI cards ... and similarly B01 is the same in a critical reliability system. However, any valid port card will work in those slots. The problem is, if you use it/them and need it/them later then it's a pain in the butt to move all of the translations ... but not impossible or even difficult under most circumstances.

Whoever fed you these inaccuracies should have qualified their statements. I'm sure that they thought that they were looking out for your best interests, but their statements are not exactly true. Either they though that you wouldn't understand the long term implications or they were simply lazy (as in the case of slot A01 and the work required for vacating it for future growth) and/or wanted to sell you the more expensive product (as in TN464GP vs. TN767E). In either case I would take future statements from this individual with a grain of salt and/or ask them to qualify their statements with Avaya documentation.
