Configuring a T1 card for a Fax Server

I have a DS1 card that is directed connected to a Brooktrout card in a Fax Server. I'm having a problem getting the DS1 card up....any ideas on how the card should be configured?

Thanks

We use the same equip in our fax server altho not sure of the model. I remember the board came with some good docs and brooktrout's tech support was good enough to help us get it running.

Re: Configuring a T1 card for a Fax Server

I've checked out the docs and I've configured the ds1 board the way brooktrout says too, but with no luck. I've also called avaya and they have tested our card and csu, which both are fine. Do you know if the patch cable from the card to the brooktrout card has to be any special pin outs...or can it be a normal patch cable?

Thanks

I have had to "flip" T1 cables between the Definity and other devices (notably Cisco devices). To do so, you would need to "flip" the pins as follows: 1 <-> 4 and 2 <-> 5. You could create a small 6" "flipped" cable and hook it inline with a modular coupler to see if that's your problem. I carry a 6" flipped T1 cable in my toolbox just for this purpose.

Full Definity T1 pinouts are located here: Avaya Definity DS1 Pinout Chart

How do you have the DS1 setup? Are you using ESF/B8ZS or AMI/D4 signaling? Have you tried using a crossover cable like the previous thread suggested? I have seen situations where you might need an Adtran CSU/DSU to get the brooktrout card functioning. Also, what is the model and version number of the card that you are using?

Re: Configuring a T1 card for a Fax Server

I've configured the DS1 card per brooktrout's pdf for a tr1024 non pri card. I was told by a brooktrout tech that the problem is the CSU that connects to the ds1 card....I'm trying to bypass that by using the 103 block. My question now is what would be the pin outs to go from the punch down block to the brooktrout card. I've saw on a posting to punch down wires 1 and 2 to slot 22 and 3 and 4 to slot 23...but I've tried with no luck...guess I'm looking for a little more detailed information.

Thanks

Are you able to get the brooktrout board to green up? When you have it connected thru, what results do you get from test board? Trying to get a feel of whether you are past a carrier issue and are having problems with configs like signalling, etc...

Then click the link in my previous post above. Complete pinout information for the Definity is included there.

Their is no carrier...it is a direct connect from the ds1 card to the brooktrout card. The cards light is green and red, which means that the card is running and ready for a signal. The problem is the signal from the ds1 card to the brooktrout card.

Ok - I wasn't really referring to a public provider, just meant physical T1 connectivity. I believe you should loop up and test as was stated earlier in the thread. Loop up the cable at the faxserver end (towards the PBX) and run test board.. test 138 confirms carrier (connectivity to your loopback plug)

Talking Re: Configuring a T1 card for a Fax Server

guess what you need is a fax server manual to configure the fax and network card first.
