Red face G3V6 TN464F PRI D Channel Problem

Been beating my head against the wall for some time.

I am connecting the G3 to a Cisco gateway. Done the Cisco GW many time to many PBXs. G3 is not making it easy. Also, am using a TPI PRI tester to check the PRI link...

The G3 is not bringing up the D channel. We have changes the config a hundred times, still no D Channel. T1 is up OK, Cisco transmits SABME, no RX. Can set T1 in remote loopbaclk and Cisco sees it's packets it is sending. Link looks OK...

Using the tester, no layer 2 established from G3. Not sure where to look or what to look for. Sees there is a disconnect between the DS1 curcuit pack and the D Chanel config.

BTW, card switch settings verified to 24 channels.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Need more information. Please reply with: "display ds1 PPCSS" (PP=Port Network, C=Carrier, SS=Slot) and "display sig X" (X=D-Channel Signalling Group).

Re: G3V6 TN464F PRI D Channel Problem

DO I have to use a Avaya Cable and A120 CSU?

We are not using a CSU and have a T1 Cross over cable. (cable works fine on other PBXs and to test unit from Cisco).?

Thanks,
Joe

Re: G3V6 TN464F PRI D Channel Problem

No problem on the CSU, shouldn't need it. We have a couple of interface T1's to Cisco Call Manager. In your ds1 configuration, set the Protocol Version to 'C' and set Connect mode to 'line-side' (this may not have impact). Don't make changes to your existing ds1 config, delete the ds1 first and recreate with these settings. Sig channel looks fine...

Good luck!

Re: G3V6 TN464F PRI D Channel Problem

Thanks. I will make sure we try C (DMS 100). I know for sure we tried a (ATT 5ESS) and B (National). I cannot remember if we tried C. I will also advise the tech to remove and add the DS1 config.

Avaya recommends deleting/readding ds1 configs. The previously posted configs are working with our CCM.

You do not need a CSU and the cross-over cable is what we're using on a PBX in Ft. Worth. If the Cisco sees the T1 then you're probably OK ... but you can find the Avaya DS1 pinouts here: Avaya Definity DS1 Pinout Chart

Attached are the DS1 and Trunk Group settings for a WORKING connection in Ft. Worth, Texas for an S8700 (Definity) to a Cisco Call Manager. Try these and let me know.

Re: G3V6 TN464F PRI D Channel Problem

Interesting.

Your original post mentioned a Cisco GW but didn't specify a CallManager. If so, CM also does h.323 trunking. That's pretty much a snap to configure. Let me know if you need any info..

Re: G3V6 TN464F PRI D Channel Problem

Thanks for the config. I will have the tech compare it. I think the problem is somehow based on the fact that there were seveal cards and cabinets with this box. There are no longer any additional cabinets and cards were removed. It seems there is phantom configuration that cannot be removed as the original parts must be in place before the config can be removed. There does not seem to be any other explination why the dchannel will not come up.

Thanks for the Cisco info. I am using SIP to an IP Centrex/Hosted PBX system. This side I have down and know well. I am relying on the Avaya tech/expert to get the Avaya PRI going before I befuddle him with configuration that does not make sense to a normal PBX :)

Still struggling...

Joe

Re: G3V6 TN464F PRI D Channel Problem

Interesting problem... we had a similar situation happen where the D channel would NOT come up! Avaya ended up having to dial in and recreate it all (at least that is what they told us). Everything looked the same, so I can only assume that removing everything and rebuilding it might work.

This was on an existing PRI that went down unexpectdly (because of human error) and would NOT come backu up.

Hope that helps.

Check eBay. You'd be amazed at what you can get there. Here's a link to a an auction where you can pick one up for $9.99:
