scheduled task
deal all, im a technician and is quite new to avaya media servers. as many of our customer would like to change the config of their definity/s8300/s8700 servers at non-office hr. i wld like to ask i can schedule some tasks using asa or the like so that i can do the job beforehand. also, i wanna know if i can remotely connect to the servers, after the scheduled time, to verify the changes. is it true that i can do so via modem connection? generally the changes include types of phone set, port location, phone features, ... (all the common changes for a common client)
pls help, thanks. please tell me for unclear part of my question, if any. cg |

Re: scheduled task
we schedule tasks using ASA. I dial in by either using a raz server on the network and then an ASA IP connect or via PcAnywhere to a modem connected to my desktop and access that way to validate changes. hope that helps.

thx dlgouse. i got another question. i found that the task scheduling feature require the live connection with the server during configuration. the difference is that the changes will be activated some time later. however, im expected to OFFLINE configure the system... :( im now studying the 'save template function', data import/export function. my idea is to dump the old config -> offline modify it at my own office -> apply it at specified time so you think this works or not? does it supports all changes? please give me some hints. thx a lot! (PS - be reminded that the changes are generally in phones set features, port location, phone type...) |

Re: scheduled task
I don't think ASA allows a scheduled task to run if there is an emulator window open on the system you are trying to change. I think it will establish the connection, run the task and levet the connection in an idle state after commpletion. I use templated and imports when making like changes to all stations where I use one template and apply it to everything. The temmplated do allow changes to everything in the station form including button assignemnts. I personally would be leary of download and restoring the whole config. too many little things to go worng that could really bite you. If you want to talk about this feel free to give me a call. I'm located in Pa. EST zone. I'm in the office from 7:00 AM until 4:00 PM every day. (814) 274-6054 direct line with voice mail. Also email is dennis.gouse@adelphia.com if your intrested.

Re: scheduled task
I beleive that ASA wants a live connection at the time you are setting up the task is that ASA goes into the system to confirm the changes that you are requesting to happen at a later date. It checkes to make sure it can complete the task.
