Talking Voice over Web

Can someone point me in the right direction:

I am trying to gather info on routing my voice traffic over the public Internet.

Currently have a G3R, getting ready to install S8700.

Is anyone doing this now? Like getting rid of their T-1's and pushing traffic over the public Internet.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Voice over Web

Why would you want to get gid of your T1? when using VOIP the are some thing you need to consider like QOS (Quality Of Service).and how reliability is you ISP if you depend just on the internet you might asking for trouble. NO ONE i mean NO ONE !!! can grantee you QOS over the internet technology has advance so quickly i must admit the quality have gotton alot better. If i remember correctly communication manager can not only accomidate H.323 butSession Initiation Protocol (SIP) which is far better when talking about VOIP.there is ia company that i use for this http://www.primustel.com these guys are pretty good.
If you want to use the Internet for everything you have to make sure you have Adaquit bandwith and a reliable ISP and make sure you have at lease 2 and make sure the router is configure to pickup when one service is down.
Now depending on the type of business you have to look at security on that voice Packet.
I do it all the time but i keep at lease 1 T1 for backup when internet is down call go over the CO.

Re: Voice over Web

ATT and MCI both have mis/voip offering on the table. Both of them use their managed internet service with a sip to PSTN gateway.

Re: Voice over Web

I would not risk my QOS to an internet call. However there are managed VoIP services popping up that are looking interesting. ie PtP T1 to a NOC

Re: Voice over Web

Sometime if you don't explain how importaint QOS is some customer just looking at the bottom figure$$$$$.I know that some company have some Fabilous equiptment like Quintum the quality of this equiptment is by far the best i have ever seen. When making an IP call you will not believe that you are calling over the internet.
