MUSIC On HOLD
I have a Definity G3si V8 PBX and just purchased an Avaya Universal Coupler. We want to get music on hold. Has anyone every installed this and if so how??? Also, besides this, what else is needed to get it working?

Re: MUSIC On HOLD
You also need an external music source. You can do it with an external CD player or even with you PC's CD-ROM. Administer a port for the music-on-hold in the "system-parameters features". Connect that port with the "OUT" of the coupler (Use common RJ11 cable). Then connect the "IN" of the coupler to the "phone output" of the external source. For that connection you need RJ11 to RCA cable. It should work fine. I have done it 50 times.

Re: MUSIC On HOLD
You made it sound pretty simple. I'm just confused about the 3 jacks on the side of the coupler labelled J1, J2 and J3. Is that where your talking about plugging it in? What kind of port do I give the switch? Does this coupler get power from the switch? This coupler came with 3 different wires... 2 Ethernet, which have one side crimped and the other stripped. The last is, what looks like an rj11 or 14 that is setup the same way.. crimped on one end and stripped on the other....

Re: MUSIC On HOLD
I would recommend that once you do get the connections made that you use a standard PC ni conjunction with media player such as iTunes or even Media Player. Convert your music to mp3 and your ready to roll. As well. if you are networked, there are several great programs that allow you to control the box remotely so you don't have to ever physically touch the box.

Re: MUSIC On HOLD
There should have been an instruction manual that came with the 909 Universal coupler. The jacks (rj45) are the in and out of the music source. The rj11 is the for 48v. It can be supplied by the PBX if a transformer was not provided. There is another coupler that we used to order that can with a system 25. It's feed was just an in source and an out to the PBX. The number for this was (MOH) Interface KS-23395.

Re: MUSIC On HOLD
The 909 for MOH is fairly simple. The three jacks are for the music source in, out and power for the 909. It should have come with a transformer. For the input jack I suggest adding a jack (like a 42A which has 4 terminals) and tieing first the input portion and the the music source on the terminals. Then assign MOH in the PBX. If you haven't done this at the command line type in "change System-parameters features" tab down to Music/Tone on Hold: music Port: add music and the port location. The port location is either from an AUX Trunk circuit pack or an analog port.

Re: MUSIC On HOLD
Simple yes, free no.
Is the 909 required? Couldn't I just run the line from the MOH source directly to the pbx port? What advantage does the 909 give me? Re: MUSIC On HOLD
The 909 univ coupler is NOT necessary if the music source is registered by the FCC (in the USA).
That is in chapter 10 of the link that Al gave. On a personal note. I have installed MOH both with and without a 909. It worked either way. Without it is just easier... |
