Question Long Distance T1 vs Local T1

Hi All,

what is the difeerence between Long Distance T1 and local T1? We are based in India and we have Long Distance T1s but throuhg which we are not able to dial Toll free Number in United States. My Service Provider says to Dial Toll free number we need to procure local T1.

Also is there any other way to Dial Toll free numbers in United States.

Ask your Long Distance T1 provider if they will provide Local service for you as well (on your T1). If they can't, you may want to check around to see if anyone else does. You will need local service to dial a Toll Free number, but it shouldn't have to go across the T1 for that service. Do you have local analog lines as well?

1) Technically, there is no difference. The LD carrier who is providing the T1 has simply chosen not to handle toll-free traffic. Most LD carriers have this policy.

2) Some LD carriers offer an "Integrated Access" T1 with can handle both local and LD on the same T1. Check with your carrier and see if such an option is available. Otherwise, you can install a few CO-Trunks specifically to handle the toll-free traffic.

Many carriers will allow for inbound 800 service coming down the T1 pipe, but in most cases don't allow you to dial toll free out. To keep your costs down you should have CO Trunks/analog to make your toll free calls as they are free. Also, isn't there some restrictions overseas that they can't dial toll free??
