Reboot Audix

2 issues..

I have been at this company for 2 months and just found out that the Audix hasn't been rebooted in over a year. I am quite familiar with the Avaya recommenations to do this every 90 days. I've had experiences in the past where waiting to do this too long resulted in the system not coming back up. Would you recommend a tech be onsite the first time I do this?

Also, my Audix system is not on a terminal, but connected to an A/B Box with I am assuming terminal emulation software. I am used to working from my desk using ASA so I had to quickly make a change and was near my switchroom. I logged on accidentally with 4410 emulation instead of 510. The screen is totally garbled and usually just turning the terminal off and on solves this; however, I can't do that with this setup. Is there a way to get back out to the main login prompt?

Re: Reboot Audix

I've never had trouble rebooting our Audix MAP100, but then again I've never waited a year. Not sure what an A/B box is so I'm trying to figure out what screen is garbled? Terminal window, or ASA through the RemoteMaintenanceBoard? If it was ASA, guessing it's not but, I just type 'newterm' when I get a garbled screen. Good Luck.

1) No. It is very likely that you will be just fine. Use ASA to dial in remotely and FIRST: DO A FULL BACKUP! In the unlikely event you would have to recover from a crash you will need a full backup. Second: make sure that you have the original software that came with the box. If you do have to recover you may be required to re-install some, or all, Audix and/or Unix components.

2) When you re-boot the system this problem will go away. There is a way to terminate the login session in Unix (by dialing in remotely). This procedure kills the session and returns a login prompt to the terminal ... but I cannot remember how to do that. Perhaps some other soul will advise you on that or you could call Avaya (if you have maintenance) and ask them.

Just to confirm.. Using ASA from my PC I can dial into the Audix.. run my backup, stop the voice system and then shutdown. Then walk over and power off and on the voicemail itself? I just want to make sure I can do all this while dialed in otherwise I'm dead...

Yes. Specify 4410 emulation. You will see the same menu as SA that you normally see at the monitor, but in monochrome. If your Audix has IP connectivity and the IP Administration RTU is turned on then you should be able to telnet into the Audix using ASA.

If u login to an Intuity using the wrong terminal emulation, press the "ctrl" and the "f" key at the same time to emulate the f numbered keys that u would have if u were logged in using the proper emulation. Then press the number "6" key or "1" key to exit out of the sytstem. Then login in using the proper emulation.
Avaya doesn't advise an actual turn off of the system anymore during the 60-90 reboot. The 60-90 day reboot is much more inportant to do in a Mach 5 system.
The Intuity can be rebooted remotely if u have software that has the "reboot" prompt along with the "shutdown" and "stop voice" prompts. If the system doesn't have the "Reboot' prompt and u do a "shutdown" instead, the system will stay down till someone onsite hits any key to bring it back up.
Avaya can reboot the system remotely regardless of the software load, but they will charge u even if u have maintenance.
