Question Announcements disappearing on VAL BOARD

Can anyone help with a problem I'm having on a VAL Board. Occasionally when I record announcements on a VAL baord they save correctly and I can play them back , but the next day they can disappear. the announcement is still listed in the Announcement list but the recording is blank.

Re: Announcements disappearing on VAL BOARD

I am not too sure if this is the answer, but our Service Manager sent along a PCN for us to implement before the end of the year so as not to have announcements disappear. Read the bugfix for the PCN from Avaya.
PCN Number:

1416B

Customers who do not implement FV7 will be exposed to the following issues that are resolved in FV7:

Bugfix:

Announcements being lost or reverting to older versions. This firmware contains END OF YEAR "roll-over" fixes that correct lost announcement problems.

If a user issues the "enable filesystem" command with the filesystem already enabled, the TN2501AP now responds with a correct error message.

Its very fast. 20 minutes if your reading the instructions. :)
If you havnt done this DO IT. its a critical patch.

After you ftp the new firmware to the board you must pull the board and re-seat it. That is the only service affecting issue.

No need to reseat on CM1.2 or later....

still service affecting tho, as the board is out-of-service for a very brief period.

Re: Announcements disappearing on VAL BOARD

I am still having problems losing announcements on the VAL board

For example - last week I put in a new VAL board latest firmware and all, even got the board directly from AVAYA. I added 3 announcements and all was okay. This monday I did a list conf board and saw there was no time on 2 of the announcements yet when I dialed the announcement ext it was there. I was on with AVAYA yesterday for 1 hour and they told me to replace the board. Everytime this happens they say to replace the board. I cannot help but wonder if there is something else going on.

Everytime I replace a board I have to remove all the announcements to another board and then put them back on the new board once it is replaced.

On another note I am trying to use my VAL Manager software but it is not recognizing that I even have VAL boards in my system. A Tier 3 guy told me that my VAL software was old and I needed to upgrade ?????? What's up with that? I can connect to my switch through VAL Manager and I can ping my boards so why doesn't VAL Manger see them?

HELP???

Re: Announcements disappearing on VAL BOARD

Anyone with a VAL card that is HW rel 0-2 should be running FW rel 7 now. If you don't then some announcements may appear to disapear. The year is not rolling over so the system see an announcement that was recorded on Jan 2, 2003 as never recorded after Jan 2, 2004. As the year goes on other announcements will also appear to disapear. The wav files are still on the card but they don't show up in the announcement form (i.e. disp ann) and if the system does not see them in this form they won't play.

If you re-boot the card by reseating it then the current date with the proper year will resolve the problem for now. This problem also has another component and that is the card will reboot it self after 47 days into the new year, then all of the announcements will return.

You can check the wav files and there spelling by isseuing the system command 'li dir board (board location number i.e. 01D01) /annc'. These files must be spelled the same in the announcement form (i.e. disp ann). The order of the files verses the order of the listed announcements does not matter.

The file that needs to be flashed to the VAL card is 'tn2501ap_f7.bin' and you can get this from the Avaya download site along with a readme file that give the details for this upgrade.

The VAL card upgrade can be done from the same VAL card that is being flashed. You can't put this firmware on just any card and upgrade to the VAL. This is refered to as Selfdown and the VAL card supports the upgrade as a source or as a target but only for the VAL firmware.

I'll give you the details later if you still need them but I have to go now.

The firmware has been updated. The problem still stands. When I do a list integ board XXXXX it shows a 0 next to an announcement that is really there. When I dial the announcement ext the announcement is there but on list integrate board it shows 0 seconds. This has been escalated to Tier 3 and I am supposed to hear from them by 5 today. The board has already been replaced by Avaya. Let's see what they say.

Don't forget the "silly space" rule. Your description CANNOT have spaces in it to work.
