We have been heavily investigating this problem. It appears that there are several factors that can stop the telephone recording function from working.
Some of these are still unknown however you do need to have voicemail pro 2.1 - you can download this from the avaya website - if you can get a hold of 2.1 instead of 2.1.6 it would be better as we have many systems that have a problem with the telephone handset recording when using version 2.1.6 - but you be lucky as sometimes it just works.
