You do not need a CSU and the cross-over cable is what we're using on a PBX in Ft. Worth. If the Cisco sees the T1 then you're probably OK ... but you can find the Avaya DS1 pinouts here:

Attached are the DS1 and Trunk Group settings for a WORKING connection in Ft. Worth, Texas for an S8700 (Definity) to a Cisco Call Manager. Try these and let me know.
