It took me awhile to decypher your question ... and I'm still not sure that I have it correct. Here's what I think you're asking: You have an ISDN-PRI connection to a fax server. You want to know how to re-route calls to a backup fax machine if the physical PRI link to the fax server goes down.

First, unless the fax server or either T1 card (in the Definity or the Fax Server itself) goes down this should not be an issue ... but lets assume that it is. The easiest way to do this is to reroute OFF-NET (i.e. outside the PBX) to a DID number. This DID number can either be a fax machine itself or to a hunt group with a number of fax machine extensions as hunt group members.

You would reroute the calls in the same route pattern that routes the calls to the fax server in the first place. Do this by, a) pointing to your outbound local trunk group, b) strip all 7 digits by placing a "7" in the del digits column, and c) enter the 7 or 10 digit DID number in the insert digits column. This entry would be in rout preference position #2 immediately under the one that routes calls to the fax machine. Then, if the Definity detects that the PRI is down, it will skip to the next routing preference, strip all 7 digits from the call, insert the DID number and send the call out your local outbound pipes. The call will then re-enter the PBX as a DID call and go to the fax machines.

This may not be the most elegant method, but it will work for you with the least amount of programming headaches.
