From the R5.1 manual:

Depending on the amount of user data on your system, the unattended backup may not save all data types. Unattended backup backs up all system data, then backs up as much of the other data types as possible, as described in Partial Unattended Backup. Therefore, you may want to run an attended backup to copy other types of information for security and recovery purposes.

Partial Unattended Backup

If the unattended backup cannot store all of the data types on the backup medium, the system backs up the System Data files and as much information of the other data types as possible. If the system performs a partial unattended backup, the backup log shows that the backup was completed successfully. The system generates an additional log entry: BKRST029.

To detect and address partial unattended backup:
1. Start at the INTUITY Main Menu and select:
Customer/Services Administration
Log Administration
Administrator's Log

The system displays the Administrator's Log Display Selection Window.

2. Place the cursor in the Event ID field.

3. Enter BKRST029

4. Press F3 (Save).
The system displays the Administrator's Log Window.

5. Verify that there is an entry with today's date and Event ID: BKRST029 If an entry with today's date does not exist, a partial unattended backup did not occur. Complete the steps in Backup Verification Using the Log Administration Menu to verify that the unattended backup was completed successfully.

6. Consider the following remedial actions to ensure that you will have complete backup data if you need to restore data:

  • If you are using a 1-GB disk cartridge for the unattended backup, switch to a 2GB disk cartridge.
  • Perform attended backups to multiple disk cartridges on a regular basis. See Backing Up System Files (Attended) for more information.
Backup Verification Using the Log Administration Menu: Same as above except search for BKRST001 and step 5 states:
Verify that there is an entry with today's date and the following text:
Backup process has been completed successfully.
If an entry with today's date does not exist, the unattended backup was not successful.
