The signalling groups showed everything as offline.
The end to end description is:
Prologix with TN464F - 888b adapter - Patton 1088/K
single copper pair
Patton 1088K - 888b - TN464F

As you suspect clocking was not the problem. The Patton box had no indication as to which G703 connector was RX and which TX. The manaual had a diagram that was back to front. We swapped them over and it started working.
