Question DSL: Analog v Digital

So I have a little disagreement with my Special Services tech.

Is DSL analog or digital? I realize that by the name it is digital. My point is that since it is over copper I assume it uses a frequency to carry data. Frequency is an analog characteristic not a digital one. The only way I could see a digital circuit on copper would be if it were simple DC current. Can anyone shed some light on this subject for me. Or tell me where I can read more.
TIA
