You cannot dial directly into an S8xx0 platform ... AT ALL. You must create a PPP dialup network connection and then telnet into the server using TCP port 5023. In order to establish the PPP connection you would have had to have ALREADY set up a login of type "remote."

There is no "console" port on the S8300 (although there is on the G350/G700/Gxxx). To physically access the S8300 you will need to connect a network cross-over cable to the "Services" port on the front of the S8300. Your laptop's ethernet port should be configured as 192.11.13.5 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.252 and you should telnet to 192.11.13.6 TCP port 5023.
