troubleshooting static on paging system

I have a G3si w/ a TN 763 aux trunk board used for paging. The board has no errors or warnings, however after performing a 'test board 01A08 long' the results show:
Port Maint name Test no. Result
01A0802 AUX-TRK 33 PASS
01A0802 AUX-TRK 114 FAIL
01A0802 AUX-TRK 36 PASS

I have notes from the previous tech who mentioned switching the 3 pairs for this paging system to port 2 because he supposed that port 1 'was going south'.

could a FAIL of this type possibly cause the static noise over the PA that customers are complaining about?

Before I try another port on this card, is there anything that I should/could do first to try?
I unplugged the microphone on the PA amplifiers and the static went away, so I am concluding that the common-denom is the PBX or horiz cabling.

ideas?
