I have a RAID 5 controller card in a PC at home and the external connector is for adding an external drive to the RAID array.

Did you get the drives from Avaya or buy them at your local computer store? If you did not get them from Avaya, that could be your problem. Avaya puts a header on their drives and the MAP100 is completely proprietary. The BIOS could be looking for that header before continuing.
