Re: Directory Option

You do not want the Dial-by-Name feature to pull the name from the PBX because the PBX has limited name recognition capabilities, it does not store its' records by name like voice mail does.

For example, you have three employees named -

Smith, John
Smith, Joe
Smith, Jane

If the names are pulled from the Audix after you enter "smit", you will be asked "Press 1 for John Smith, press 2 for Joe Smith, press 3 for Jane Smith".

If the names are pulled from the PBX, first you will enter "smit". You will get a message saying that is not unique, spell the entire last name and press #. You type "smith#", it will tell you that is still not unique, enter the first two letters of the first name. If you type "ja", your call will go to Jane Smith. If, on the other hand, you type "jo", the PBX will tell you it cannot help you and quit.

If you have display phones you can use a "directory" button on a phone. This will use the PBX data base but will allow you to scroll though similar names by using a "next" button.
