SBS Signaling

We installed an S8300 CM3 at a customer location and they want to use the viocemail that is attached to an S8700 CM2 in another city. We are trying to set up SBS signaling via IP trunking. It appears that the communication manger side will not route off the local LAN but we are able to ping the from the linux side.
perhaps a better description on of the problem from one of our engineers:

The final problem shows that the S8300 can not route outside it’s local LAN
(Note I placed a known IP address on the Siganl form within the LAN and the sigal link came up)
The IP trunk error shows it can not ping the other site.
Even though the Linux (S6300)side can.

I hoping can provide some insight, because this is completely new to me.

Thx,
Rod~
